January 1

Tip: It is the beginning of a new year. Take a look at last year’s goals. Did you meet them? What are your goals for the coming year, personally and professionally? Be specific. Then add ideas on how you can reach those goals. Remember, a goal is something *you* control. So saying “My goal is to get published” is not valid. Unless you are self-publishing, you cannot control whether or not a publisher buys your manuscript. If you self-publish, you can say, “My goal is to publish my own book”. If you don’t, you can go with something like: I am going to submit my manuscript to ten publishers. Be specific, but make sure your goals are ones you control.

Thought: “A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.” – Abraham Maslow
